The Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Research Centre

The Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Research Centre (ANZIC-RC) is a bi-national intensive care clinical research methods centre. It was established in 2006 within Monash University's Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, based in the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct (AMREP) in Melbourne. The ANZIC-RC is supported by National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Enabling Grant funding, by NHMRC project and other project-related grants, and by Monash University.

The ANZIC-RC assists with the design, funding and execution of clinical trials. Advice and assistance is available from experienced intensive care unit (ICU) researchers, data management/bio-statistical consultants, project managers, epidemiologists and health economists. The Centre coordinates and conducts comprehensive research programs including observational studies; feasibility projects; and large multi-centred, interventional, randomised controlled trials. It has the ability to support small, medium and large clinical trials.

The ANZIC-RC is a referral centre open to all ICU clinicians (including doctors, nurses and allied health professionals) offering a range of services (see below).

The ANZIC-RC also provides PhD or MD opportunities for clinicians interested in critical care research. PhD projects may be sub-studies of existing trials within the ANZIC-RC or may be novel, stand-alone projects. Typically, they have a clinical focus and are not basic science or lab-based research. For current PhD projects, please refer to our PhD Scholars webpage. For entry criteria, please refer to Monash University's PhD in Epidemiology "How to Apply" information. To discuss PhD or sabbatical opportunities at the ANZIC-RC please contact anzicrc@monash.edu.
